February 14, 2000 (Seattle, WA) - Asentria, Inc. announces the release of Custom Feature Modules (CFM) for the Data-Link™ and the SNMP-Link™. The CFM is a software module capable of adding extraordinary capability to these products, such as highly customized alarm analysis.
Director of Engineering Randy Blakely described the customer needs that spurred the development of this new feature. "Large enterprise networks often have a highly complex hierarchy of alarms they need to monitor in case of network or phone system malfunction," he said. "Our customers needed more than the fixed and limited alarm features offered by other products on the market. They turned to us for a system with the flexibility to handle even their most complicated alarm monitoring applications. We developed the CFM to streamline the customization process."
"For example, some of our customers have PBXs which require special interrogation in order to extract switch alarm records," explained Mr. Blakely. "With the CFM, it's a simple task to set up a query from our product to the PBX so that the PBX will issue alarms on demand.
"Also, one of our customers is using the CFM to establish a complex hierarchy of pager call-outs for a particular alarm event. In this case, alarm notification demands change by the day and hour as well. The CFM created a fast and easy platform on which to design the notification system they need. The possibilities are just about endless."
The Data-Link Pollable Remote Access Agent and the SNMP-Link Network Management Proxy Agent keep telecom and network managers informed about the condition and operation of their systems by monitoring serial data, equipment functionality and environmental conditions.
The Data-Link also buffers SMDR/CDR/Traffic/ACD data. Standard alarm features for the Data-Link include data alarms, toll-fraud alarms, no-data alarms, external sensor alarms, percentage-full alarms and scheduled alarms.
The SNMP-Link is primarily used to monitor and manage devices that are not SNMP compliant. Serial ASCII strings, contact closures and analog input can be used to generate SNMP traps to multiple IP addresses, alarms to multiple pager numbers, or to set off an internal buzzer.
Both products also offer pass-through management of remote equipment through TCP/IP or modem protocols.
The CFM feature is available now as an option for the Data-Link and the SNMP-Link from Asentria, Inc. For more information, call Sales at 206-624-4985.
