Overview
Asentria Data-Link provides you with the ability to use the Internet for your data transfers. For certain remote polling applications, it is more cost-effective to poll or push data through your local Internet Service Provider (ISP) instead of using a direct long-distance modem connection. Polling data through an ISP allows you to avoid long distance phone charges, which limits your charges to the cost of the Internet service. All you need is an ISP account. Since you can access many PBXs through the same ISP account, your long-distance savings will multiply with each additional PBX you monitor. Service Bureaus that monitor dozens of PBXs, for example, may be able to utilize one ISP account to transfer data instead of incurring long-distance charges for each PBX.
Solution Example
Let’s say you are a call accounting Service Bureau based in the United States monitoring 50 PBXs for customers throughout the country. Each PBX takes 10 minutes to poll via modem at $0.05 per minute, polling each PBX once each day. Your daily long-distance charges are equal to 50 units x 10 minutes x $0.05 = $25.00 per day, or $9,125.00 per year. That is an expense far beyond a typical $240.00 annual Internet fee.
