Role Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Remote Systems Admin to join our team. This remote role is essential to maintaining, optimizing, and developing our IT infrastructure, ensuring the seamless operation of our business-critical systems. The ideal candidate will have expertise in administering Microsoft 365, user accounts, servers, virtual machines, and a diverse range of modern and legacy platforms. The candidate will have a strong commitment to meticulously maintaining robust security across all operations with an absolute minimum of user downtime due to IT reasons.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and optimize the company’s remote IT infrastructure, including:

    • Remote administration of on-premises servers (VMware ESXi / vSphere)
    • Cloud servers (AWS EC2)
    • Monitoring system performance, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring high availability and reliability.
  • Administer Microsoft 365, including user management, configuration, integration, and support for email (Microsoft Exchange), collaboration tools (Microsoft Teams), file storage (OneDrive), security settings, and more.
  • Implement and maintain robust security measures across all systems, using tools such as Microsoft Defender, TrendMicro, and Microsoft Active Directory (AD) to protect against threats and ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Maintain backup and recovery systems which prove (through actual demonstration) that systems can be fully restored within 24 hours even in the even to of a total disaster (such as a malware attack, etc.)
  • Develop and improve existing systems as needed to support business growth and operational efficiency, potentially involving scripting or automation or migration to better tools/solutions.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to team members and users, troubleshooting issues related to servers, networking, applications, and security.
  • Collaborate with other IT staff and departments to ensure seamless operation of all systems.
  • Maintaining uptime is the key performance indicator and is meticulously tracked. Any incident where user productivity is impacted due to an IT-related issue (network outage, software system glitch, IT oversight, etc.) is treated as a failure of the IT department and reduces the Uptime %. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience as a Systems Administrator or similar role, with a focus on remote or cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration, including user management, security settings, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience administering modern business software systems (ERP, CRM, etc.)
  • Familiarity with a range of operating systems:
    • Linux: Ubuntu Server, CentOS/Rocky Linux/AlmaLinux, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
    • Windows: Server 2019/2022, Windows Server Core, Windows 10/11
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Nutanix) and cloud platforms (AWS EC2).
  • Understanding of networking concepts and experience with:
    • Cisco hardware (Catalyst, Nexus)
    • VPN solutions (OpenVPN, SSL VPN)
  • Solid understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices, including threat detection, access control (Microsoft Active Directory), and compliance.
  • Strong experience maintaining user uptime for business teams
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote work environment.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, CompTIA Security+, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator) are a plus.
