Hardware Development Engineer

Asentria is involved in providing remote monitoring and control systems for, among other things, cellular and broadband wireless infrastructure sites in various domestic and international markets.  Asentria produces hardware systems including embedded Linux platforms, smaller MCU platforms, and various sensors and peripheral products, all focused on remote equipment monitoring and control solutions. The hardware development process is extremely rapid and involves multiple projects occurring simultaneously, all with urgency. Typically a customer or an opportunity is hanging in the balance while we get new hardware developed. A Hardware Development Engineer at Asentria works with a senior developer and a Departmental or Division manager to accomplish various hardware development projects along the lines of these stated goals.  This position is typically highly busy and multi-tasked.   Candidates must possess a strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals and physics and the ability to apply these principles in the evaluation of components, prospective designs and the development of schematics and in some cases also printed circuit boards

Thus, the successful candidate for the position of Hardware Development Engineer must work with all aspects of the hardware development department to implement, develop and deliver working hardware prototypes which meet the company needs and which then get finalized and exported to manufacturing, by applying:

  • Substantial experience with digital CPU/MCU design and interfacing such controllers to real-world I/O;
  • Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent educational and work experience);
  • Experience with low frequency Analog IO design (below 100kHz voltage sampling, Contact Closures, 4-20 mA, etc.);
  • Interest in working in a fast paced, multi-project environment;
  • Ability to tie up numerous loose ends to insure a product is can be efficiently manufactured;
  • An interest and willingness in working as a manager over such hardware projects but also the ability to do hands on work when needed;

The individual must have the facility to efficiently complete schematic capture and Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layout of new circuit designs, build and troubleshoot prototypes, select components, administer the component database, and facilitate product compliance with specific standards conformance including CE, UL 1950, IEC801 (and other EMC standards). By applying knowledge, skills, and experience in these competencies, the engineer is expected to produce reliable hardware designs, implemented per specification using an optimum selection of readily-available, cost effective components, which can then be manufactured at high quality and in volume. This position also requires an individual who can apply these skills to the testing and validation of component substitutions for existing designs and products and to provide aid in troubleshooting manufacturing issues as well as providing training and support to technicians as required. Some project management experience would also be an advantage for this position.

This is a great job.  A majority of our engineers have been with company for close to 10 years.  2009 was our best year ever.  If you think you fit the requirements and would be interested in working at a fast-paced, busy, successful company, please send in your resume!
